9. First mockup and usertesting

Initial fold out boxes design
After my initial research, I decided I would make a fold-out box that includes the instructions so that there is no leaflet to throw away. I designed one box for 8 and one for 16 tampons. The 16 piece box was easier as there is more room to put info on.

User testing:
The questions asked were:
As a first-time user can, you follow the instructions?
Can you tell me what TSS is and what the symptoms are?

Feedback:

  • How do I know what kind of tampon to buy (small, reg or medium) what is my flow?
  • Warning on the outside is a bit scary, "i'll just use pads"
  • General tampon info not needed.
  • TSS info good but could be condensed and use icons.
  • "First timers" good wording. Could be the first thing you see when opening.
  • I have no mirror, maybe include a mirror?
  • "relax your vagina" weird wording
  • "not hurt" yes but it could feel uncomfortable.
  • include that the tampon cant get lost so don't worry
  • include wrapping tampon in TP before throwing in the bin
  • use diagrams instead of words were possible
  • Make the diagrams, not 'scary' make the 'fun' and teen friendly
  • Positions "look at the ones above" should be on other side
  • order of opening panels is confusing - hierarchy
  • Packing, either sturdy or soft so it doesn't break
  • Is it noisy, eg embarrassing
  • Different packaging for home use and travel use?
  • Reusable?
  • include barcode and expiry date
  • L's and I's are fat?
  • Use visuals!
  • use icons
  • Panels are not good for everyday use as they will get in the way of people who already know how to use it and make access to the tampons more difficult
  • Maybe tear of panels.
  • include an emergency number.
